Flying premium cabins is always exciting, but doing it during the 2026 FIFA World Cup made this trip even more memorable. American Airlines added limited-edition World Cup touches that made the experience feel special before we even landed in Europe.

Why We Chose This Flight

Our trip to Italy centered around the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and nonstop service from Philadelphia to Milan made this one of the easiest ways to begin our adventure. Even better, we were able to redeem points for Flagship Business, making an overnight transatlantic flight much more enjoyable.

Boarding & First Impressions

Boarding was efficient, and stepping onto the Dreamliner immediately reminded us why this aircraft remains one of our favorites for long-haul travel.

The cabin felt modern, clean, and surprisingly quiet, thanks to the 787’s improved cabin pressure and lower noise levels.

The seat offered plenty of personal space with ample storage, multiple charging options, and a large entertainment screen.

The Seat

American’s Flagship Business seat converts into a fully lie-flat bed, making overnight flights significantly more comfortable than economy.

There was more than enough legroom, and stretching out for the overnight flight made arriving in Europe feeling rested much easier.

While American’s business class seat isn’t the newest product in the industry, it remains comfortable and functional for crossing the Atlantic.

World Cup-Themed Amenities

One of the coolest surprises was American’s special edition FIFA World Cup amenity kit.

Instead of the standard offering, passengers received a US Men’s National Team-themed amenity kit, along with a clear stadium-approved bag complete with a shoulder strap. It was a thoughtful touch since many World Cup stadiums require clear bags, making it something we actually used during the tournament.

For sports fans traveling to Europe, this was a memorable collectible and one of the more unique airline amenity kits we’ve received.

Bang & Olufsen Headphones

American provided Bang & Olufsen noise-canceling headphones for the flight.

The sound quality was excellent, and they paired nicely with the Dreamliner’s already quiet cabin, making it easy to relax with a movie before getting some sleep.

Dinner & Breakfast

The onboard meal service began shortly after takeoff.

American offered several entrée choices, and overall the meal exceeded our expectations for business class catering.

After a solid night’s sleep, breakfast was served before arrival into Milan.

While breakfast wasn’t anything extraordinary, it was fresh, filling, and a pleasant way to wake up before landing in Italy.

Arrival into Milan

As we approached Milan, the views outside the Dreamliner’s oversized windows were spectacular.

One unexpected highlight came after landing when we spotted two Emirates A380s parked at Malpensa—a rare sight that every aviation enthusiast appreciates.

Our flight parked at a remote stand, meaning we exited via the aircraft stairs instead of a jet bridge.

That gave us the perfect opportunity for one final photo in front of the massive Rolls-Royce engine on the Dreamliner.

Sometimes the unexpected parts of flying create the best memories.

Final Thoughts

American Airlines delivered an excellent Flagship Business experience from Philadelphia to Milan.

The lie-flat seat provided a comfortable night’s sleep, the Bang & Olufsen headphones enhanced the entertainment experience, and the service throughout the flight was attentive.

What truly made this trip memorable, though, were the special World Cup touches. The limited-edition USMNT amenity kit and clear stadium bag turned an already enjoyable flight into something we’ll remember long after the tournament.

Would we book this flight again using points?

Absolutely.
