Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel Review: A Great Marriott Free Night Stay Near LAX

When you have a late-night flight into Los Angeles and an early start the next morning, sometimes the best hotel is the one that makes travel easy.

That is exactly where the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel came in for us.

We flew into LAX from MCO on a later evening flight before starting our Pacific Coast Highway road trip, and instead of forcing a late-night drive, we used one of our Marriott Free Night Awards worth up to 35,000 points for a quick airport stay. For this type of trip, it was a great redemption.

If you are looking for a convenient airport hotel near LAX that works well for points, free night certificates, shuttle access, and a simple overnight before a rental car pickup or early flight, this is a strong option.

Hotel Overview

Hotel: Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel
Brand: Marriott Bonvoy
Location: Near Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
How We Booked: Marriott Free Night Award (up to 35k points)
Best For: Late arrivals, early departures, rental car pickups, quick overnight stays near LAX

Why We Booked It

For this stay, convenience was the entire goal.

We landed late into LAX and wanted:

  • an easy airport hotel
  • a free shuttle option
  • a solid use of a Marriott free night award
  • a place to sleep before picking up our rental car and starting our road trip

This was not meant to be a luxury destination stay. It was meant to make the trip smoother, and it did exactly that.

Using a 35k Free Night Award here felt like a smart use of the certificate, especially for an airport hotel in a major market like Los Angeles where cash rates can climb quickly.

First Impressions

For an airport hotel, the Renaissance Los Angeles Airport felt more polished than a basic overnight option.

It had the feel of a full-service hotel rather than just a place to crash. That matters on a travel day, especially after a late flight. Being able to arrive, settle in quickly, and get some real rest before the next leg of the trip made a big difference.

The biggest perk here is really the simplicity of the stay. Once you arrive, it is easy to reset and get ready for the next day.

Location

The location is one of the biggest reasons to book this hotel.

It is very convenient for:

  • arrivals into LAX
  • departures from LAX
  • picking up a rental car
  • avoiding late-night driving in Los Angeles traffic

For us, this was the perfect first stop before heading north on our California road trip.

While this is not the type of property you would book for sightseeing in Los Angeles, it is exactly the kind of place that works well for airport logistics.

Shuttle and Rental Car Convenience

The free airport shuttle was a major reason this hotel made sense for us.

We wanted something that would let us:

  • get from the airport easily
  • sleep
  • get over to the rental car center the next morning

That part was helpful, but we did run into one issue that is worth mentioning for anyone planning a similar stay.

The hotel is only about two blocks from the old rental car location, which was still showing in the app when we checked. We walked over thinking we were headed in the right direction, only to realize that rental cars had moved to the new LAX Rental Car Center, where the major agencies are now consolidated.

Thankfully, the hotel had someone outside handing out maps to help direct guests to the new center, which saved us once we realized what happened.

So while the hotel worked well for rental car access overall, the biggest takeaway is this:

Double check the current rental car pickup location before heading out, especially if your app is still showing outdated information.

Once we got to the correct center, we picked our car from Hertz President’s Circle and were finally on our way.

Room and Sleep Quality

This was a short overnight for us, so the biggest factor was simple: did it help us get a good night’s sleep before an early start?

Yes.

That is really the value of this property. It gave us a comfortable place to rest between a late flight and the beginning of a longer trip. For an airport stay, that is exactly what we needed.

This is one of those hotels where the review is less about destination-level excitement and more about whether it serves its purpose well. In our case, it absolutely did.

Value on Points

This is where the stay made the most sense.

Using a Marriott Free Night Award up to 35,000 points here was a very good redemption because:

  • it saved us from paying cash for a one-night airport stay
  • it kept our travel day simple
  • it positioned us well for the next morning
  • it gave real utility to a certificate that can sometimes be hard to maximize

Airport hotels are not always the most exciting way to use points or awards, but they can be some of the most practical. This was a perfect example of that.

Who This Hotel Is Best For

The Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel is best for travelers who want:

  • a reliable overnight near LAX
  • a good use of a Marriott free night certificate
  • access to the airport shuttle
  • a place to stay before picking up a rental car
  • a smoother start or finish to a trip

This is especially useful if you are arriving late, leaving early, or trying to break up a longer travel day.

Pros

  • Convenient location near LAX
  • Free airport shuttle
  • Great use of a 35k Marriott Free Night Award
  • Full-service hotel feel for an airport stay
  • Ideal for late arrivals and early departures
  • Helpful launching point for rental car pickup and road trips

Cons

  • Not a destination hotel for a Los Angeles vacation
  • Rental car center transition can be confusing if apps still show the old location
  • Best suited for convenience, not necessarily a memorable hotel experience

Final Thoughts

The Renaissance Los Angeles Airport Hotel did exactly what we wanted it to do.

It gave us an easy overnight near LAX, worked well with a Marriott Free Night Award, and made it possible to start our road trip rested instead of exhausted. That alone made it worth it.

Would this be the hotel we book for a full Los Angeles getaway? Probably not.

But for a one-night airport stay before a rental car pickup or after a late flight, it is a very solid option — and one we would absolutely consider again.

Would We Stay Again?

Yes — especially in the same situation.

If we had:

  • a late arrival into LAX
  • an early next-day rental car pickup
  • a Marriott Free Night Award to use

we would gladly stay here again.
